Destined for the Jubarte field, the FPSO Maria Quitéria arrives in Brazil

05/08/2024 15:21 – TN Petróleo Editorial Team, Agência Petrobras

The FPSO Maria Quitéria, destined for the Jubarte field in the Parque das Baleias complex, in the Capixaba portion of the Campos Basin, has already arrived in Brazil. It is an FPSO unit (Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading system) equipped with emission reduction technologies, including a combined cycle for power generation, which allows for greater operational efficiency combined with a reduction of around 24% in operational greenhouse gas emissions.

Aligned with the company’s decarbonisation strategy, the FPSO Maria Quitéria is scheduled to start operations by the end of this year, thus advancing the timeline set in the Strategic Plan 24-28, which had initially slated the start of operations for 2025. The unit will have the capacity to produce up to 100,000 barrels per day (bpd) of oil, process up to 5 million cubic metres of gas per day, and inject around 330,000 barrels of water per day, interconnected to eight production wells and eight injection wells.

Standing 156 metres high up to the flare – equivalent to the height of the Convento da Penha in Vitória (ES) – and 333 metres long, the platform will be installed at a water depth of 1,385 metres – comparable to twice the height of Morro do Moxuara, located in the Capixaba capital. Additionally, it will have the capacity to generate 100 MW of energy, enough to supply a city of 230,000 inhabitants.

The FPSO Maria Quitéria demonstrates Petrobras’ innovative DNA in Espírito Santo, where the company established its first Integrated Operations Centre for E&P and is implementing pilot projects such as the use of mixed reality for operational support (360º Asset) and the first 3D printing laboratory for operational support within the company.

“Looking to the future, the FPSO Maria Quitéria project marks the start of a technology that will be a game changer in the company’s decarbonisation strategy: the use of natural gas in internal power generation in a combined cycle, with the potential to reduce emissions by up to 24%,” said Sylvia Anjos, Director of Exploration and Production.
