Petrobras, partners sanction second-phase development of Santos basin fields – Oil&Gas Journal

Petrobras has taken final investment decision to proceed with second phase development of Atapu and Sépia fields in the pre-salt Santos basin, offshore Brazil.

Atapu field, which lies within Block BM-S-11A, has been producing since 2020 through the P-70 floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, with a production capacity of 150,000 b/d of oil. The second development phase, Atapu-2, will comprise a new-built FPSO of 225,000 b/d capacity. Petrobras is operator of the field with 65.7% interest. Partners are TotalEnergies 15%, Shell plc (16.7%), Petrogal (1.7%), and PPSA (0.9%).

Sépia field, in Block BM-S-24, has been producing since 2021 through the Carioca FPSO, with a production capacity of 180,000 b/d of oil. The second development phase, Sépia-2, will target the northern part of the field. Development comprises a new-build FPSO of 225,000 b/d capacity and gas processing capacity of 10 million cu m/day. Seatrium O&G Americas Ltd. was contracted to construct the FPSO. Petrobras is operator of the field with 55.3% interest. Partners are TotalEnergies (16.9%), Petronas (12.7%), QatarEnergy (12.7%), and Petrogal (2.4%).

The two FPSOs are expected to start producing beginning in 2029.
